Description
Challenge : A leading online learning platform wanted to enhance user engagement and accessibility by developing an Alexa skill named
“AudioEducate” to provide learners with voice-guided educational content.
Solution
The “AudioEducate” Alexa skill was created to offer users the ability to access a wide range of educational audio content,
including lectures, tutorials, and study materials, simply by using voice commands.
Key Features Implemented
Users could activate the skill by saying, “Alexa, open AudioEducate” followed by specific requests such as “Play a oncology”. It also has a mechanism to measure no of right and wrong answers and accordingly if no of correct answers matches default setting then system automatically issues credit.
- OCR processing: Modified current OCR processing and improved its accuracy of identifing lables from scanned patient images.
- Auto order assignement: Ordered images based on dates shown under scanned images.
- Improved UI and funcational aspects: Implemented Image UI filters which worked based on extracted arrtibutes of the image including filter by patient.
- Performance optimization: The platform was using SQLlite database with performance issues while trying to access large set of patient images and data.we identified root cause and replaced this with a noSQL DB for enhanced performance.
Accessibility
“AudioEducate” addressed accessibility concerns by providing a hands-free learning experience, catering to users with visual or motor impairments.
It seamlessly integrated with the online learning platform’s content library, ensuring that users could access up-to-date and relevant materials. it works fine
with learndash wordPress plugin as well.

Results
“AudioEducate” saw a significant increase in user engagement and retention, with learners using the Alexa skill as a complementary tool to their online courses.
Conclusion
The success of “AudioEducate” encouraged the platform to explore voice-based learning further and consider expanding to other voice-enabled devices including google homes and platforms to reach a wider audience.
